Use a job tag to track and visualize process changes, lot, or batch information

Tags provide a means for storing control information. They are used to represent additional information about the process that can later be used to filter collected data.

A job tag is a special type of tag that visually displays a change in the process. In data collection, the tag graphically displays a change in its value. A job tag can also influence control limits.

In the example below, a job tag has been assigned to track lot numbers. A vertical green line through the chart represents each time the lot number is changed. The pink diamond-shaped symbol containing an "H" represents the point control limits were recalculated because a different job tag value, or lot number, was selected.

Job tags provide traceability and are useful for visually tracking process modification, such as a change in raw material, machine part, or batch recipe.

In the Query Tool and Reports screens, managers, engineers and others are able to filter collected data by job tag value. This allows them to analyze very specific data such as an exact machine or lot number's data.

Once you create a job tag, it will be a viewable property wherever you see its associated chart, such as within Data Collection and Plant Monitor.

To set up a job tag:

1. From the Administrator screen, highlight the part you wish to associate with a tag.

2. On the toolbar, click the New Tag icon.
Note: There are two additional ways to create a new tag:
From the menu bar, select File > New > Tag
OR
Right-click a part in the navigation tree and select New > Tag

3. Once a new tag is created, name it, and then double-click on the tag to open the tag setup dialog box.

4. On the Settings tab, under General, check the Job Tag check box. If you would also like your control limits to reset when a job tag value is changed (as illustrated above), select the Reset control limits for new job check box to activate this option. You may also configure tag response type and format options here.

5. Use the Assignment tab to specify which parts or characteristics will use the tag and click OK.

Notice that the tag entitled Lot Number has turned from yellow to green to distinguish it as a job tag.
