How to choose the right edition of MS SQL Server to use with WinSPC

Many customers that choose to deploy WinSPC using Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or 2005 frequently ask us to recommend a specific edition of the software. DataNet certifies WinSPC on Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition. Additionally, the Standard Edition is used throughout DataNet's customer service department.  It's been our experience that it is simpler to assist customers in solving a technical issue if both parties are working in identical versions of software.

We chose to certify on (and therefore recommend) the Standard Edition simply because the majority of our customers use it. The Express and Workgroup Editions offer limited support surrounding fault tolerance protection, do not support 64-bit, and offer no performance profiling features. Conversely, the added expense of the Enterprise Edition weighed against the benefits of its expanded feature set, is difficult for many companies to cost justify.

This does not mean, however, that DataNet support is limited to customers who choose the Standard Edition. We offer the same quality of service to customers no matter which edition they purchase.
